Rachel Kleiman, Executive director

Rachel obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a Major in Sociology, and Minor in Media Studies at Brock University in 2015 and later completed her Social Service Worker Diploma at Mohawk College in 2017. Rachel joined HBIA in March of 2018 overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Clubhouse and facilitating survivor-based programs. In her short time with HBIA, Rachel has taken the initiative to grow the programming and increase the number of participants to the point of needing a second facilitator. Rachel was promoted to Executive Director where she oversees the organization and continues to facilitate and implement new programming at HBIA. Rachel is an integral part of HBIA’s fundraising committees and community initiatives as the Chair of the Golf Committee, Co-Chair of the Bikes, Blades & Boards and Fundraising Dinner Committees, and is a member of the 5K By the Bay Committee. Rachel is passionate about volunteerism, community engagement, and ensuring survivors have access to support and resources. Rachel is active in the community and sits on various committees including the Program Advisory Committee for the Brain Disorders Management Program at Mohawk College.

Nermeen Estafanous, pROGRAM Facilitator

Nermeen obtained her medical degree and practiced medicine in Egypt before she relocated to Hamilton in 2015. Nermeen obtained her certificate in the Brain Disorders Management Program from Mohawk College where she completed her placement with HBIA. After completing her placement, Nermeen accepted a Program Facilitator position with HBIA. Nermeen is passionate about supporting survivors of acquired brain injury and demonstrates this as she facilitates survivor-based programming and assists in the planning of all Annual Survivor and Family events. Nermeen enjoys coordinating HBIA’s Sign Language Club on Wednesay’s and is an active committee member of HBIA’s Bikes, Blades & Boards Committee.


Sandra Salas, Group Facilitator

Sandra is a Registered Social Worker with the OCSWSSW. Sandra joined the HBIA team as a Group Facilitator of our Spouse Support Group and Family & Caregiver Support Group.
